CRISPR/cas9-mediated recombination using guide RNAs targeting the extracellular loop 1 created multiple DNA changes resulting in a 3 amino acid substitution starting at position 278 of RRE to AAA. This mutation disrupts the Furin cleavage site in loop 1 compromising processing of the protein. (J:344557)
