The transgene contains the following elements: a neuron-specific enhancers-containing region 9-13 kb upstream of the Pomc gene transcription start site with enhancer Rr279 deleted but Rr280 still present, and the Pomc gene, including 0.8 kb of upstream and 8 kb of downstream sequence, with the EGFP reporter gene and SV40 poly(A) signal sequences inserted upstream of the translation start site. The deleted region 0.8-9 kb upstream of Pomc contains pituitary enhancer Rr181. The transgene is expressed in hypothalamic arcuate neurons during embryonic development. (J:176451)
