The transgene contains the following: the Pomc gene, including sequence 8 kb downstream of the transcription start site and13 kb upstream, containing the promoter and pituitary-specific enhancer Rr281 (with the neuron-specific enhancer Rr280 deleted but Rr279 still present), with the EGFP reporter gene and SV40 poly(A) signal sequences inserted upstream of the translation start site. The transgene is expressed in pituitary melanotrophs and corticotrophs and in hypothalamic arcuate neurons during embryonic development. (J:97636)
