The coding sequence for P2A-GFP/cre/ERT2 and a downstream FRT-flanked neomycin resistance cassette was inserted in-frame to the C-terminus resulting in bicistronic expression of the endogenous transcript and a tamoxifen-inducible cre recombinase with green fluorescent protein reporter. Breeding to a FLP deleter excised the neo and Immunolabelling of P0 cochlea shows normal nuclear localization of GFI1 and cytoplasmic expression of GFP/cre/ERT2, which migrates to the nucleus after tamoxifen administration. This allele expresses a high level of tamoxifen-inducible cre specific to developing hair cells of the vestibule and cochlea. (J:297267)
