The entire complement of coding exons 2-16 was replaced with an nls-lacZ reporter gene cassette and a loxP-flanked neomycin resistance gene cassette. Subsequently, the neo cassette was removed through cre-mediated recombination, leaving a reporter and null allele. Western blot analysis of hippocampal lysates confirmed the absence of protein expression in homozygous mutant mice. (J:239922)
