The open reading frame of the bovine prion protein gene was inserted into an expression vector containing the mouse prion protein promoter, exon 1, intron 1, exon 2 and 3' untranslated region. Bovine prion protein expression in brains of homozygous transgenic mice of this line, as determined by western blot analysis, is 8-fold that observed in cow brain homogenate; none is detected in spleen, heart, skeletal muscle, testis or kidney of transgenic mice.
