This transgene encodes an immunoglobulin heavy chain (IgH) whose variable region is that of the monoclonal antibody expressed by the 15B3 hybridoma cell line, which recognizes the scrapie prion protein (PRNPSc); this is joined to the mu constant region (Cu) of the Igha haplotype. Transgenic mice express antibodies composed of transgene-derived IgMa mu heavy chains paired with various endogenously encoded immunoglobulin kappa and lambda light chains, but have no detectable IgHM/D from endogenous genes. Antisera from these mice do not exhibit anti-PRNP activity. (J:127850)
