A T-to-A transversion generated a stop codon in place of the sequence encoding a tyrosine residue at position 489. Immunoblot analysis on homozygote thymus extracts detected only a very small amount of truncated protein, and mRNA levels in these extracts were one-third of endogenous levels. (J:151076)
