The insertion of a promoterless beta-geo casette in intron 2 results in splicing of exon 2 to beta-geo and production of a fusion transcript consisting of exons 1 and 2 with beta-geo. Western blot analysis demonstrated a reduction of protein abundance in glomerular lysates from heterozygous adult mice relative to wild-type controls. (J:327589)
