这些小鼠是通过增强子陷阱转基因技术产生的。研究者构建了hsyn-bgi-cre:ERT2-bGHpA这种转基因，其中包含人类神经丝(mini)启动子驱动cre-ERT2融合基因（cre重组酶与人类雌激素受体配体结合区域的G400V/M543A/L544A三重突变），并且由β珠蛋白内含子分隔启动子和cre基因，后面跟着牛生长激素的polyadenylation序列。这个转基因被注入了C57BL/6J胚胎中。后代中的一条8131杂交系随后在C57BL/6J背景上确立。(来源：J:150856)
