The gene locus was chosen due to its active transcription throughout T- and B- cell development. Germ-line Dbeta1 and Jbeta1.1 segments, their recombination signaling sequences and intervening intronic sequence were inserted between exon 1 and 2 of the gene locus. Southern blot analysis of T and B cells revealed germ-line and recombined versions of the knocked in gene segment. (J:131995)
