The transgene contains the tet operator, tetO, regulating expression of a dominant negative N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor, or SNARE (dn-SNARE), that blocks the release of neurotransmitters. dn-SNARE is the cytosolic part of the SNARE domain (amino acids 1-96) of vesicle-associated membrane protein 2 (VAMP2; formerly synaptobrevin II). The enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) and E. coli beta-galactosidase (lacZ) reporter genes are also expressed under the control of tetO. The three constructs were co-injected. (J:102245)
