The transgene expresses the Arabidopsis thaliana ortholog of mammalian gephyrin variously known as CNX, CNX1, CHL6 or SIR4. Both the plant and mammalian proteins participate in the biosynthesis of molybdenum cofactor (MoCo), a metalloprotein coenzyme essential to the activity of several oxidoreductases. The A. thaliana cDNA resides downstream of a human beta-actin promoter and is followed by an SV40 polyadenylation signal. (J:82133)
