A mutant human MYC gene isolated from a Burkitt lymphoma cell line and characterized by a shift in promoter use from P2 to P1 is fused to a 12 kb human genomic DNA segment containing the intronic enhancer and other functional elements of the IGL locus control region. RT-PCR analysis of various tissues of young, lymphoma-free transgenic mice detects high levels of MYC mRNA in lymphoid tissues, but no or very low levels elsewhere. Immunoblot analysis with human MYC-specific antibodies consistently detects low levels of the protein in spleens of transgenic mice. (J:65245)
