A neomycin resistance cassette was inserted via homologous recombimation to replace part of exons 3 and 4. The deleted sequence was about 330 bp in length and encoded the VEGF homology domain, including 7 of the 8 invariant cystein residues involved in intermolecular and intramolecular disulfide bonding and the VEGFR-1 binding epitope. Western blot failed to detect protein in mutant heart and muscle. (J:103156)
