A targeting construct was designed to delete exon 8 by the introduction of a lacZ and neomycin resistance cassette. Deletion of exon 8 results in a truncated protein containing only the first 270 amino acids of the protein and lacking the SRF-binding, dimerization, and transcription activation domains.
