70 bp of exon 3 was replaced with a lacZ-neo cassette followed by transcription and translation STOP sequences. The absence of transcript was confirmed by northern blot analysis on kidney extracts. This is a null allele and a reporter allele. While RT-PCR analysis detects a gene transcript in kidney, testis and prostate gland, beta-galactosidase expression from this allele is detectable in brain, retina, kidney and testis.
