A PGK-neo cassette replaced exon 4, which codes for 32 internal amino acids of the 268-residue NC6 peptide and includes split codons for the first and last residues. Northern blot demonstrated lack of mRNA transcripts in homozygotes. Sequencing of RT-PCR products showed that there were no shorter in-frame transcripts present. Immunoblots demonstrated the absence of the expected 165-kD collagenase-sensitive product. (J:92510)
