In-frame insertion of a lacZ reporter into exon 1 at the start codon resulted in the deletion of exon 1, which encodes the first 40 amino acids of the protein, including the entire signal peptide. RT-PCR indicated no transcript present in mutant embryonic cells. (J:90398)
