To express catenin beta in the epithelium of the mammary ducts, cDNA encoding Xenopus catenin beta was adjoined to a mouse mammary tumor virus long terminal repeat. The encoded catenin beta protein lacks 89 amino terminal residues, retains cadherin/catenin binding, and has increased stability in the cytoplasmic pool. Beta globin sequence and a myc epitope tag were also included in the construct. Founder mice contained approximately 45 copies of the construct and were considered "high expressing" relative to line 3. (J:69210)
