The first 2 exons were replaced with a neomycin resistance gene. Absence of expression after this gene modification was confirmed by Northern blot analysis. A subsequent publication demonstrated that the targeting vector also replaced the first exon of the neighboring gene Mettl23, located on the opposite strand. RT-PCR confirmed absence of Mettl23 mRNA in homozygous embryos. (J:86771, J:137989)
