The endogenous locus was disrupted by the insertion of a nonsense mutation in codon 21 (exon 1) and with the replacement of exon 3 with a neomycin selection cassette. Northern blot analysis of rib cartilage RNA and Western blot analysis of whole rib extract indicated an absence of normal transcript and protein in homozygous mutant mice. (J:81137)
