Sequence encoding the third helix of the homeodomain was disrupted by the insertion of a lacZ reporter cassette. The inserted cassette contained stop codons in all three reading frames, precluding the translation of the endogenous carboxy terminal, which is involved in transactivation. Comparisons with wild-type in situ hybridization results showed that the expression of lacZ was similar to the endogenous expression pattern. (J:65759)
