A portion of exon 3 and all of exons 4 through 7 were replaced with a neomycin selection cassette. The deleted region encoded transmembrane domains 2 through 6. Truncated transcript was detected by Northern blot analysis using 5' and neo probes and undetected using a 3' probe. Protein was shown to be absent in homozygous mutant mice via Western blot analysis. (J:68137)
