A lacZ gene was inserted in-frame just downstream of the translation start site. A neomycin selection cassette was also inserted in reverse transcriptional orientation following the lacZ gene. A beta-galactosidase protein was expresssed from this allele that mimicked the endogenous expression of the gene. (J:19896)
