An IRES-LacZ-floxed-MC1-neomycin resistance cassette replaced much of the open reading frame. The authors predict that the targeted allele would encode a bicistronic message under control of the endogenous promoter that expresses both a truncated N-terminal SP5 protein and beta-galactosidase.
