携带gunmetal突变的老鼠在内皮1的3'端剪接点接受位点有一个G到A的替换，导致了exon 2的剪接被消除，因为这里从CAG变成了CAA。这导致了转录错误。对gunmetal鼠的提取物进行RT-PCR分析，得到了两种转录本，一种是429bp的主导性非完整编码转录本，缺失exon 1，预测其不能产生功能蛋白，以及在野生型老鼠中常见的638bp的内含子alpha保留转录本。gunmetal鼠中确实检测到了RABGGTA蛋白，但相较于野生型同胞，这两种成分的量都减少了70%。（来源：J:52722）
