Enables protein homodimerization activity. Involved in heterophilic cell-cell adhesion via plasma membrane cell adhesion molecules and homophilic cell adhesion via plasma membrane adhesion molecules. Acts upstream of or within protein localization. Located in cell-cell junction and parallel fiber to Purkinje cell synapse. Is integral component of presynaptic membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including intestine; liver; nervous system; neural retina; and olfactory epithelium. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
