核糖体,催化蛋白质合成的细胞器,由一个小40S亚基和一个大60S亚基组成。这些亚基由4种RNA和大约80种结构上不同的蛋白质组成。这个基因编码一种核糖体磷酸蛋白,是60S亚基的组成部分。这种蛋白质是大肠杆菌L7/L12核糖蛋白的功能等价物,属于核糖蛋白L12P家族。它在蛋白质合成的延长步骤中扮演重要角色。与大多数核糖蛋白不同,编码的蛋白质是酸性的。其C端与核糖磷酸蛋白P0和P2的C端非常相似。P1蛋白可以与P0和P2相互作用,形成由P1和P2二聚体和P0单体组成的五聚体复合物。该蛋白位于细胞质中。已经观察到了编码不同蛋白质的两个可选剪接转录变异体。与编码核糖蛋白的基因典型情况一样,这个基因的多个加工假基因散布在整个基因组中。[RefSeq,2008年7月提供]
