蛋白酶体是一种具有高度有序环形20S核心结构的多催化蛋白酶复合物。核心结构由4个不同亚基环组成，其中2个环由7个α亚基组成，另外2个环由7个β亚基组成。蛋白酶体在真核细胞中高度富集，并在非溶酶途径中，依赖ATP/泛素的过程，切割肽。修饰过的蛋白酶体，即免疫蛋白酶体，在加工I类MHC肽中起基本作用。此基因编码肽酶T1A家族成员，是20S核心α亚基。已发现此基因有多个转录变异体，编码几种不同的异构体。在Y染色体上发现了一个假基因。[RefSeq，2013年8月提供]
