组蛋白是负责真核生物染色体纤维核小体结构的基本核蛋白。四种核心组蛋白(H2A、H2B、H3和H4)中的每一种都有两个分子,形成一个八聚体,大约146个碱基对的DNA围绕这个八聚体重复折叠,形成核小体。连接蛋白H1与核小体之间的连接DNA相互作用,并将染色质压缩成更高层次的结构。这个基因没有内含子,并编码一个依赖于复制的组蛋白,属于组蛋白H4家族。这个基因的转录本缺乏polyA尾,而是包含一个回文终止元件。[RefSeq,2015年8月提供]
