HLA-DPA1属于HLA II类α链平行系。这个II类分子是一个由α(DPA)和β(DPB)链组成的异二聚体,两者都固定在膜上。它通过呈现来自细胞外蛋白的肽发挥作用,在免疫系统中扮演重要角色。II类分子在抗原呈递细胞(APC:B淋巴细胞,树突状细胞,巨噬细胞)中表达。α链约为33-35 kDa,其基因包含5个外显子。外显子1编码前导肽,外显子2和3编码两个细胞外结构域,外显子4编码跨膜结构域和胞质尾。在DP分子中,α链和β链都含有指定肽结合特异性的多态性,从而产生多达4种不同的分子。[由RefSeq,2008年7月提供]
