代谢N-氧化饮食来源的氨基酸-三甲基胺(TMA)是由含黄素单加氧酶介导的,并在人类中受到遗传FMO3多态性的影响,导致一小部分人群TMA N-氧化能力降低,导致鱼腥味综合征-三甲基胺尿症。该酶的三种形式,即在胎儿肝脏中发现的FMO1,在成人肝脏中发现的FMO2,以及由位于1q23-q25区域的基因簇编码的FMO3,已被发现。含黄素单加氧酶是依赖NADPH的黄酶,催化药物、农药和异源物质的软亲电性杂原子中心的氧化。已发现该基因的不同转录变异体编码不同的异构体。[RefSeq,2013年9月提供]
