Involved in several processes, including DNA damage response, signal transduction by p53 class mediator; negative regulation of TORC1 signaling; and negative regulation of translation in response to endoplasmic reticulum stress. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including positive regulation of lipophagy; protein kinase B signaling; and regulation of cAMP-dependent protein kinase activity. Part of TORC2 complex and nucleotide-activated protein kinase complex. Is expressed in central nervous system and retina. Orthologous to human SESN2 (sestrin 2).
