An important gene associated with Alpha-Thalassemia/impaired Intellectual Development Syndrome, Deletion Type is HBHR (Alpha-Thalassemia/Mental Retardation Syndrome, Type 1). Affiliated tissues include tongue, and related phenotypes are intellectual disability and abnormal erythrocyte morphology.
