A neomycin and LacZ cassette together with loxP sites flanking exon 4 and 5 were inserted by homologous recombination. A null/knockout allele was created by subsequent flp and cre recombinase expression in mice carrying this allele to remove the lacZ sequence, neo selection cassette and the loxP-flanked exons 4 and 5.
