The transgene contains the following: the Pomc gene, including sequence 8 kb downstream of the transcription start site and 9 kb upstream, containing the promoter and pituitary-specific enhancer Rr281, with the EGFP reporter gene and SV40 poly(A) signal sequences inserted upstream of the translation start site. The transgene is expressed in pituitary melanotrophs and corticotrophs but not in hypothalamic arcuate neurons during embryonic development. (J:97636)
