The transgene contains the following elements: a neuron-specific enhancers-containing sequence 9-13 kb upstream of the Pomc gene transcription start site with the two enhancers Rr279 and Rr280 deleted, the Herpes simplex virus TK gene minimal promoter and the human growth hormone gene gene. The transgene is expressed in neither hypothalamic arcuate neurons nor in pituitary melanotrophs and corticotrophs during embryonic development. (J:97636)
