The transgene contains the following: the Pomc gene, including sequence 8 kb downstream of the transcription start site and 10.5 kb upstream, containing the promoter and pituitary- (Rr281) and neuron-specific (Rr280) enhancers, with the EGFP reporter gene and SV40 poly(A) signal sequences inserted upstream of the translation start site. The transgene is expressed in pituitary melanotrophs and corticotrophs and in hypothalamic arcuate neurons during embryonic development. (J:97636)
