A ~1.3 kb genomic fragment, containing part of the Myh6 (myosin, heavy polypeptide 6, cardiac muscle, alpha) regulatory region, was placed upstream of the bacterial chloramphenicol acetyl-transferase reporter gene. The genomic fragment contains sequence from the MaeIII restriction site at -140 (relative to the transcription start site) to the MaeII site at +1074 in exon 3. It contains some regulatory sequences (such as CCAAT and TAATA boxes) and the 5' end of the Myh6 gene (comprising the first two (5' UTR) exons and introns, and most of the non-coding part of exon 3). Chloramphenicol acetylation activity was not detected in the heart ventricle or atrium, nor in aorta, breast, biceps, diaphragm, kidney, liver, brain, lung, uterus, thigh, calf or spleen. (J:30465)
