This TALEN-induced mutation was generated in a strain with the retinal degeneration 8 (rd8) allele of this gene and has 5 noncontiguous base pairs deleted in exon 9, nucleotide 3481 from the original rd8 mutation and then nucleotides 3486-3489, which is predicted to cause a frameshift and result in the introduction of 11 novel amino acids before premature termination.
