A 6 kb promoter-containing region upstream of the translation start codon of the olfactory marker protein gene was used to drive the over- or ectopic expression of the neural cell adhesion molecule 2 gene in olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs). The gene sequence consists of the coding part of the cDNA plus 78 bp of 3' UTR (with last 354 bp unique to the glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (Gpi) anchor-containing isoform), followed by SV40 poly(A) signal sequence. This transgene overexpresses the gene in OSNs in olfactory receptor zones 2-4 (Z2-4) and ectopically expresses in Z1. (J:81623)
