Exon 1, containing the ATG translation start site, was replaced with a lacZ gene cassette and a neomycin resistance gene cassette. This creates a reporter-null allele with the reporter gene under the control of the endogenous promoter. qRT-PCR, immunoblotting and immunofluorescence experiments confirmed the lack of expression of the endogenous gene from this allele.
