The transgene is comprised of mouse Pomc sequences from -13.3/-6.8 and -2.1/+3.2 kb, numbered relative to the transcriptional start site, ending within the 5 untranslated region of exon 2. This promoter region contains regulatory elements, which include distal 5' neural enhancer elements. This promoter drives expresion of an obligate dimerized form of DsRed (tdimer2(12)). SV40T-antigen poly(A) sequences are included at the 3' end of the construct. Two separate founder lines were initially analyzed (lines 17 and 18). Line 18 was studied further and distributed.
