Bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) library (CHORI) was used to obtain a BAC (#RP23-218H13) containing the entire mouse paired box 7 Pax7 gene. This BAC was modified to replace the first coding exon of Pax7 with an enhanced green fluorescent protein from Escherichia coli, ZsGreen. Mice emit green fluorescence in the somites, frontonasal processes, and the neural tube, as early as E9.5, with increased fluorescent intensity seen after E10.5. (J:239659)
