A loxP site was targeted into the Gast gene. A second loxP site was targeted into the Hsd17b1 gene. Transient expression of Cre recombinase in ES cells resulted in recombination between loxP sites on opposite ends of the chromosome, duplicating the 1 Mb region from Gast to Hsd17b1. (J:50799)
