The allele was generated by homologous recombination in embryonic stem (ES) cells. The mouse Mafa coding region was replaced by a cassette containing the cre recombinase open reading frame followed by a FRT flanked neomycin resistance cassette. The neomycin cassette was removed by crossing F1 mice with FLPe deleter mice. (J:253253)
