A 9 kb fragment that contained the putative thyroid hormone responsive element, first coding exon (exon 3) and part of intron 3 drives inner hair cell-specific expression of the cre recombinase gene with a nuclear localization signal preceeded by an IRES sequence and follwed by the SV40 large T antigen polyadenylation signal inserted intron 3.
