The human E2F1 promoter controls the expression of a firefly luciferase gene. Bioluminescence correlates with the number of tumor cells and with the loss of RB pathway necessary for transformation activity and the proliferative capacity of tumor cells. 8 founders with germline transmission were generated; three of these showed tight cell-cycle regulation of expression in vitro.
