The transgenic construct contained the entire mouse Cnp promoter region coupled to the 800-bp quail cDNA encoding the glycosylphosphatidylinositol-linked form of TVA (CD320 or Tv-a) gene, the receptor for avian retrovirus ALV, subgroup A (ALV-A), followed by an IRES (internal ribosomal entry site) sequence and the lacZ gene. Pronuclear injection generated three chimera founders with germ-line transmission (A7, B8 and C16). After initial characterization for expression of TVA the B8 line was selected for further breeding.
